The Perfect Chill

This week we are excited to have Chris Blacklidge of Vias Imports in to explore the wines of Northern Italy. Chris is another long time vet of the wine industry that I have been fortunate to work with in many capacities over the years. This weeks focus is on the whites of Northern Italy! Focusing on Native varieties from Northern Italy that showcase the terroir; Ribolla Gialla from Fruili, Lugana from Lake Garda, Cortese in Gavi and Montepulciano from Abruzzo! This is a perfect tasting for the weather that we have been having. We will even put a little chill on the red wine this week!

Visit Northern Italy through the glass with Chris for our ‘Why Not Wednesday’ tasting July 27th. Join us from 4-7pm at the shop to taste these wonderful wines! Featured wines will be on sale until August 2nd, 2016.

Tenuta Luisa, Ribolla Gialla (2014) $23 Sale $18

Ribolla Gialla is a signature varietal of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The origins of this varietal are uncertain, but some have identified its ancestor as Avola, a varietal brought to Friuli during the occupation of Friuli by the Romans. Luisa uses high density planting to contain this prolific varietal. The grapes are harvested at the end of August to contain its acidity.

Montonale, Lugana Montunal (2014) $24 Sale $20

The farming company Montonale is situated near the small village of Borgo di Montonale, in the inland parts of Desenzano del Garda. Their wines are the essence of a land nestled between the Lake Garda and the Colline Moreniche.
