Talley Vineyards for Why Not Wednesday
For three generations the Talley family has farmed in Coastal San Luis Obispo County. The tradition began in 1948 when Oliver Talley founded Talley Farms and started growing specialty vegetables in the Arroyo Grande Valley. During the 1970s extensive planting of wine grapes began in the neighboring Edna Valley and Santa Barbara County areas. After observation and extensive analysis, Oliver’s son, Don Talley, was convinced of the potential to grow high quality chardonnay and pinot noir on the steep hillsides above Talley Farms. Don planted a small test plot in 1982 on the west hillside of the Rincon Vineyard that included chardonnay, pinot noir, riesling, sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon. Over time the varietal and clonal selections were refined and planting expanded to a total of 189 acres in the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valleys.
The Talley family owns six unique vineyards comprising 180 acres in Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Rincon Vineyard, Rosemary’s Vineyard, Monte Sereno Vineyard, and Las Ventanas Vineyard are located in the Arroyo Grande Valley. Oliver’s Vineyard and Stone Corral Vineyard are located in the neighboring Edna Valley.
Talley Vineyards is located in Coastal San Luis Obispo County, one of the world’s great regions to grow chardonnay and pinot noir. Traditional Burgundian methods are employed in the cellar to capture all of the potential of this place and to produce expressive and complex wines that purely reflect their vineyard origins.

The signature white wine of Talley Vineyards, the Estate Chardonnay represents a pure expression of the calcareous soils and cool maritime climate of the Arroyo Grande Valley produced in a classic old world style, incorporating barrel fermentation and aging.This bottling dates to the inaugural vintage of 1986 and was the first Chardonnay produced in the Arroyo Grande Valley.
Light gold in appearance, the 2016 Estate Chardonnay offers aromas of freshly churned butter with a hint of rose petal. On the palate, notes of honey-roasted peanuts lead to a rich and toasty finish. Enjoy this Chardonnay with pad thai or chicken piccata in a caper and butter sauce.

Produced entirely from own rooted chardonnay planted by Don Talley in 1984 at the top of the Eastern hillside of the Rincon Vineyard, the site is marked by calcareous clay soils where the vines struggle to produce small crops of intensely flavored grapes. It has been recognized by Wine Enthusiast Magazine as a Grand Cru of California.
Golden yellow in hue, the 2016 vintage of Rincon Vineyard Chardonnay offers aromas of grilled pineapple, cantaloupe, and a hint of crème brulee. The palate is rich and dense with ripe fruit notes up front and mineral characteristics that carry through the finish. Try pairing this Chardonnay with grilled chicken or salmon in a honey-soy glaze.

The signature red wine of Talley Vineyards, the Estate Pinot Noir has been bottled since the inaugural 1986 vintage and represents a pure expression of the Arroyo Grande Valley appellation. It was the first Pinot Noir produced in Coastal San Luis Obispo County to demonstrate the potential of the area as a world class Pinot Noir winegrowing region.
The 2015 vintage of Estate Pinot Noir is translucent garnet in hue and expressive of the distinctive character of the Arroyo Grande Valley which produces structured pinot noir with strong mineral notes. Bright strawberry aromas are complemented by hints of pomegranate seed and sage. The palate reveals notes of dried cranberry, strawberry cream, and black tea, with soft sandalwood undertones weighted toward a juicy and lingering finish. Enjoy this pinot noir with grilled salmon or caprese salad.

Light burgundy in appearance, the 2015 vintage of Rincon Vineyard Pinot Noir is ruby in color and offers aromas of strawberry, herb, and cinnamon spice. The palate is soft and plush and exudes vibrant notes of cherry, ripe raspberry, and green tea. Try pairing this pinot noir with ahi tuna with miso glaze or grilled pork tenderloin.
