Meet the Winemaker-Sam Bilbro

WNW:Meet the Winemaker: Sam Bilbro of Idlewild Wines

Join us this Wednesday for a deliciously, delightful tasting and a chance to meet the maker! Sam Bilbro will be here from Idlewild Wines out of Mendocino, California. Sam focuses on two different styles of wine. One, being Piedmontese single varietals and the other, Piedmontese varietal blends. Its a Californian tasting of Piedmontese varietals right here in Colorado! Cool. Our tasting will focus on his blends in the form of a red, white and rosé, and they are unique and delicious. Sam’s red blend was voted one if the Top 100 Wines by Wine Enthusiast in 2018 and he’s been featured in the SF Chronicle as an innovative and progressive winemaker. Come see what these wines are all about and hear him talk about how he got to doing what he’s doing today.

2018 Flora and Fauna White

The wine is highlighted by honey, wildflowers, wet stones, salty air, jasmine, and orange blossoms. The mouth feel is shaped like a diamond: lean on the front, a touch of oiliness and rich-ness through the mid, and then racy and driving through the finish.

2018 Flora and Fauna Rose

There is a play between savory versus fresh and subtlety versus power that make this wine very intriguing. The aromas are wound up around orange peel, celery salt, grapefruit, alpine herbs, wildflowers, blood orange, and sea spray.

2018 Flora and Fauna Red

Dark cherry, fresh soil, dried herbs, violets, and graphite are highlights of the aromas. The mouth feel is a joyful interplay of brightness with just enough chewy bass notes before the seriousness kicks in with a firm acid and tannin balance on the finish.
