We’re thrilled to announce we will have Head Winemaker Laurent Gruet in store for this week’s ‘Why Not Wednesday’ tasting featuring Gruet!!
At age seven, Laurent Gruet’s earliest memories of wine were of being alongside his father, winemaker Gilbert Gruet in France. Years later he and his father journeyed to the US in pursuit of expansion and affordable vineyards. After discovering suitable land and climate in the southwest, Laurent and his sister Nathalie eventually relocated to New Mexico.
New Mexico is where it all started for Gruet’s America endeavor. Parched sandy soils, extreme elevations, and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings provided unique regional challenges and opportunities for winemaking. At 4300 feet, the vineyards are some of the highest in the United States.
Founded in 1984, Gruet Winery specializes in Methode Champenoise sparkling wines. The family owned and operated winery produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay-based sparkling wines and a small collection of still wines. All the wines produced are the embodiment of tradition and roots originating from Gilbert Gruet’s Champagne house in Bethon, France. We’re honored to have Laurent Gruet here with us for our ‘Why Not Wednesday’ tasting to share his remarkable story and equally as great wines! We invite you to join us from 4-7 pm!!
